Family Time

One of my most favorite things to do is spend time with my family.  This day was especially nice because I got to spend some one-on-one time with my youngest son Jeremy at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
I’ve always been fascinated about gardens…flower gardens and vegetable gardens.  Growing up in North Georgia, I spent a lot of time with different family members and most had both vegetable and flower gardens. I remember how beautiful and peaceful it was picking flowers or vegetables. I also can remember how good the food tasted coming from the garden.
I remember one time in particular, picking vegetables from the garden with my Uncle Curtis. At the time, we were picking onions.  Uncle Curtis reached down and pulled a large onion out of the ground and took a bite out of it like he was eating an apple!  I couldn’t believe it!  I remember thinking how much fun I was having spending time with Uncle Curtis, but  thinking I wasn’t quite sure if I was brave enough to take a bite out of an onion like he did.  Fortunately, he ate the entire onion!  I love onions, but not enough to eat them like that! :) I also remember how seeing and smelling the different flowers my grandmother, aunts and uncles had at their home made me feel.  There is something very calming and peaceful about being outside in nature.  I remember smelling the honeysuckles and pulling the stem out and sucking the sweet nectar.  Thinking about those days puts a smile on my face.
That’s what I wanted to give to my children.  That sense of peace and calm.  No worries...just being able to appreciate nature and enjoy spending time together.
My time spent with Jeremy at the Botanical Gardens took me right back to that wonderful childhood place.  Jeremy felt the same thing.  We enjoyed the Alice In Wonderland exhibit that was on display while we were there.  It was really cool. There were giant topiaries designed in each character’s image.  I really did feel like a little girl again!  The character in this picture is Shaggy the dog.  We enjoyed ourselves so much, we decided to become members.
This is the beauty of being an entrepreneur and designing my life…We decided to go to the gardens on a Thursday and spend the entire day together.  We didn’t have to get permission to be off work or be concerned about using up our PTO or vacation time.  We are creating and designing our lifestyle around our business and loving every minute of it!

If you have a special moment or experience that puts a smile on your face or that puts you in a place of peace and calm, I’d love to hear about it. Shoot me an email at and share your story!
